What is the Storytelling Board? #
With our Storytelling Board, you can design the flow of your digital scavenger hunt, city rally, escape game or serious game.
You can combine spots into groups, use different game modes and create interactive game flows with conditions, branches and team-specific routes.
Each scavenger hunt event has one main route – the default game flow – and can include any number of additional team-specific routes.
A route is a complete, independent game flow with its own sequence, groups, and conditions.
Teams can easily be assigned to an individual route.
Teams without a specific assignment automatically play the default main route.
Key Terms in the Storytelling Board #
| Spot |
A station or task within your event (Tabspot). |
|
Route |
A complete game flow for your event: which spots are played, in which order, with which groups and conditions. Each team can be assigned to exactly one route – either the main route or an individual route. |
|
Main route |
The default route, marked with an * in the route bar, applies to all teams without an individual route assignment as well as to guest accounts. It cannot be deleted. |
|
Group |
A group is a card on the board that combines multiple spots. Groups can appear or disappear during the game based on conditions. In other words, groups are the key dramaturgical tool for shaping your storytelling. |
|
Start |
The first card of every route. Its spots do not belong to any group and are visible from the beginning of the game. The Start card is always present and cannot be deleted. |
|
Unused |
The final card on the board. Spots placed in this card are not included in the game. This allows you to exclude specific spots from individual routes. |
|
Condition |
A rule that determines when a group is shown or hidden, for example “Spot X completed” or “50 points reached”. |
|
Mode |
Determines how the spots within a group are played: freely, in a fixed order, hidden, with risk, or as a milestone. |
|
Follow-up group |
A group that is automatically activated once another group has been completed – helping prevent dead ends in the game flow. |
Storytelling board overview #
1. The route bar
Each route is displayed as a button. The asterisk next to the title marks the main route, while the number indicates how many teams are assigned to that route.
Clicking a button switches to the corresponding route.
The dropdown menu of the currently selected route provides functions such as renaming the route, assigning teams, and deleting the route.
Use the + button to create a new route.
A blue dot indicates that the route contains unsaved changes.
2. Groups / group cards
The group cards show the flow of the selected route from left to right. The Start card comes first, followed by your groups. The card header displays the group name, color, game mode, follow-up group, and visibility conditions. Below that, the spots are listed in their playing order.
3. Conditions
The grey chips indicate when a group appears or disappears. Clicking a chip or the lightning icon opens a dialog where you can configure different conditions.
4. Unused
You can place all spots that should not be played on the selected route in the Unused card.
5. Orange dot
An orange dot next to a spot indicates that it differs from the default main route.
6. Toolbar
The toolbar is located at the bottom of the view. On the left, you can switch between the Board and the Route Graph. On the right, you will find a validation icon with information about unsaved changes as well as the Save button.
The toolbar remains visible while scrolling.
