Test mode, live mode and finish mode!

Updated on October 17, 2024

In our Serious Games software, your event can be subject to three different modes.

1. Test mode
2. Live mode
3. Finish mode

You can see the current status of your event in various places in the online editor.

Firstly, the event time itself is displayed in different colors.

1. Test mode (yellow)
2. Live mode (green)
3. Finish mode (red)

Secondly, you will see a colored circle in the side menu of the event dashboard, which indicates the status of your event.

Test mode #

When you create a new event, the event date is automatically set to 30 days in the future unless you change it manually. Your event will then be in test mode and all status displays (see previous page) will appear in orange.

In test mode, you can reset and play through the event as often as you like. Important: Test mode is also recognized in the app! After 5 minutes, a watermark (“demo mode”) appears in the app. You should therefore avoid running the event in test mode with your customers – unless it is a pure test.

In addition, some event functions, such as the tracking of solutions for the event review, are not active in test mode.

Live mode #

As soon as your event reaches the event time you have set, it automatically switches to live mode. All status indicators in the dashboard then turn green. Live mode makes your event relevant for billing, which means that a billing log is created.

To avoid unnecessary billing logs, you should avoid testing in live mode if possible.

Of course, you can adjust the event time at any time to extend your test period. However, once the event is live, you can only return it to test mode via the finish mode.

Reset your event #
It is important that you reset the event once before automatically switching to live mode so that test players and game data are not carried over. You can specify yourself which parameters should be deleted when resetting – for example, it makes sense not to save photos and videos during the test phase.
Switch event to live mode manually #

As described, your event automatically switches to live mode as soon as the event time is reached. However, you also have the option of manually switching the event to live mode before the event time begins. To do this, click on the status display in the side menu.

If the event is in live mode prematurely, it will remain inactive in the app until the event time actually starts. This means that players can access the event, but cannot start the tasks until the specified event time (note: there may be a short delay of 1-2 minutes before the app responds).

Manually activating live mode before the actual event time is useful in many cases. For example, if you distribute tablets to your players before the game officially starts. If the event is still in test mode, the teams can already solve tasks and playing in test mode, which you might want to avoid.

This is just one of the many advantages of manually switching to live mode, which we cannot go into in detail here.

Finish mode #

Your event ends automatically as soon as the event time has expired. In this case, players can no longer continue playing as the event becomes inactive in the app.

To return the event from finish mode to test mode, you can reset it in the online editor as shown in the video above or use the status display in the side menu.

When resetting, however, you should pay close attention to which data you reset and when you reset it. This applies in particular to sensitive data such as event images, high scores and other important information.
