1. Good to know & common pitfalls
1.1 AR only works in the native Scavenger Hunt App
Our Web App does not support AR. Therefore, only use AR spots for events played in the native app.
1.2 Devices without AR support
On devices that do not support AR, the step can still be completed.
The app provides an alternative path so that no one gets stuck in the game.
The AR experience itself is not available on these devices.
1.3 Changes take effect immediately
If you edit a scene, all spots using that scene will receive the changes, including spots in events that are already running, as soon as the app synchronizes again.
For testing and experiments, it is better to create a copy of the scene.
1.4 Test on site
Lighting conditions, print quality, and the surrounding surface can all affect recognition.
Test every AR spot once under real conditions before your players arrive.
1.5 Choose a realistic size
Position and size are calculated in meters.
A model with a scale of 1 can appear tiny or huge depending on how the original 3D file was created.
Use the preview in the dialog and test the model on a device to check the result.
2. Frequently asked questions
2.1 I Cannot see the “AR scenes” menu item within Online Editor
AR management has probably not yet been enabled for your account.
Please contact your espoto representative.
2.2 My 3D model does not move on the iPhone / looks incorrect
The automatic iOS conversion does not preserve animations.
Convert the model externally, for example with Apple Reality Converter, and upload the USDZ file manually.
2.3 Can I test AR in the browser?
The preview in the model dialog lets you check the content, size, and rotation.
The actual AR experience, including recognition and anchoring in the real environment, must be tested with our native scavenger hunt app on a smartphone or tablet.
2.4 What happens if a player’s smartphone does not support AR?
The spot can still be completed using an alternative path.
No one gets stuck in the game; only the AR experience itself is skipped.
2.5 Can I delete a scene that is still in use?
No.
The CMS prevents this and displays a message.
First remove the AR link from all affected spots, including all language versions, and then delete the scene.
2.6 How many models should I add to one AR scene?
As few as possible.
One model, or one trigger image with one or two pieces of content, loads quickly and usually provides the clearest experience.
Several large files in one scene increase download times for players.
2.7 Where can I get 3D models?
You can use 3D model libraries, provided you check the license and make sure the model is available in GLB format, or create your own models using tools such as Blender.
For iOS optimization, Apple’s free Reality Converter is recommended.
