New features in the espoto Scavenger Hunt App: easier login, smart spots & more

We’re starting the new year with a major release and introducing a range of new features in the espoto Scavenger Hunt App version 3.9.00.

The update is designed to make gameplay even more intuitive, flexible, and focused.

The update is now available for our online editor as well as for the Android and iOS app and brings several highlights that create real added value for both event organizers and players.

Below is an overview of the most important new features.

1. New PIN login: aasier access, more flexibility

With the new PIN login, we’re expanding the existing login options (email & password and QR code) with a particularly user-friendly alternative.

The goal was to make access to games and events even easier. Especially for open tourism games and city tours as well a outdoor events.

The key benefit: players no longer need to remember email addresses or passwords, nor do they have to scan QR codes. Instead, a short, easy-to-understand PIN is all it takes – no media break required.

Especially outdoors, in changing light conditions or spontaneous game situations, the PIN login proves to be a robust and intuitive solution.

The three PIN options at a glance

The PIN login is designed as an extension of the QR code login and is available in three variants:

  1. Event PIN – Access to a specific event for logged-in users
  2. Guest Access PIN – Fast, anonymous access to an event without an account
  3. Player-account-based PIN – Personalized access to an event with a user account

The corresponding PIN codes can be found directly next to the related QR codes in the online editor. Clearly structured and easy to understand.

Good to know:

For commercial open applications with API integration, the PIN login can also be included as a parameter in email templates. Feel free to contact us. We’ll be happy to show you how to set this up optimally.

2. Automatically hide completed spots – more focus for your city rally

With this update, tabspots become even smarter because tasks can now be automatically hidden after they have been completed. They disappear both from the map and from the teams’ task list.

This creates more clarity and a smoother game flow especially in larger scavenger hunt events, city rallies or outdoor escape games. The setting can be configured individually for each tabspot.

Typical use cases include:

  • Onboarding spots that are no longer needed after completion
  • Games where the playing field gradually becomes smaller
  • Storytelling or routing concepts where the focus should always remain on the next task

3. Automatically hide the highscore – less effort, better finals

A real highlight for event organizers: the highscore can now be automatically hidden based on time.

Simply define how many minutes before the end of the game the highscore should disappear. No manual intervention required.

This saves time, reduces stress during the final phase and creates a more exciting finale where the focus is once again fully on the teams and the gameplay.

4. New task types are now translatable

There’s also an important update for our new task types because translations can now be added for the solution types “Fill in the blanks,” “Text sorting,” and “Image + text matching.”

Previously, these task types were only available in the default language. From now on, they can be used fully multilingual, which is a major advantage for international events and diverse target groups.

Conclusion: more usability, more focus, more possibilities

With version 3.9.00, we’re making the espoto Scavenger Hunt App clearer, more flexible and even better suited for your team events, city rallies and city tours.

Whether it’s simplified login, smarter tabspots or automated processes, this update reduces manual effort while significantly improving the player experience.

Together with our last feature update and the new option to define recording times for video tasks, we’re kicking off 2026 with a strong update.

Try out the new features and see how they can make your next game or event even better.
